Eastern North Carolina first responders participated in a water shuttle operation in Pantego on Saturday.

A water shuttle operation transports water from a static source (such as a lake, pond, river or creek) to a fire scene in a remote area with limited hydrant service or no hydrant service.

Eighteen fire departments and two EMS agencies from five ENC counties participated in the exercise.

Training exercises like this help emergency management officials and local agencies sharpen their skills and collaborate with each other. These exercises provide an opportunity to evaluate emergency protocols and identify areas that need improvement.

The following fire departments participated: Aurora (Beaufort Co.), Bath (Beaufort Co.), Belhaven (Beaufort Co.), Blounts Creek (Beaufort Co.), Bunyan (Beaufort Co.), Chocowinity (Beaufort Co.), Clarks Neck (Beaufort Co.), Old Ford (Beaufort Co.), Pactolus (Pitt Co.), Pantego (Beaufort Co.), Pinetown (Beaufort Co.), Plymouth (Washington Co.), Pungo River (Beaufort Co.), Roper (Washington Co.), Sidney (Beaufort Co.), Vanceboro (Craven Co.), and Williamston (Martin Co.).

On behalf of Beaufort County's Fire Chiefs, thank you to all the participating agencies for allowing us to have an incredible learning opportunity. We could not have done it without the help of everyone involved.
